Yellapur – Church Building Construction

Map of Yellapur.Yellapur is a town of about 20,500 in north central part of the state of Karnataka. It is known as a “main road town”, meaning it is a village with one main road and facilities such as telephone booths, tea serving stalls, and tire puncture repair shops.

90% of the people in Yellapur are farmers who grow areca nuts and rice.

Yellapur has two famous natural falls, Satoddi Falls and Magod Falls. Satoddi Falls.

One of the unique things about Yellapur is that members of an African tribe have lived in the town for several decades.

People in the area are clamoring to learn about Jesus. And, the growing number of believers are begging for a building where they can all gather to worship, and where they can invite their Hindu family members, friends and neighbors. Yellapur

As you can see from this picture, despite having a larger room than when they started, they are still bursting at the seams. They obviously need the space and, they need an official, registered church building to be in compliance with the law and so interested Hindus will come.

The Critical Need:  In addition to the fact that there is a state law prohibiting worshiping in homes the persecution in this village is currently the worst of all the KGM mission stations.

When they meet in homes they must be extremely careful not to draw attention to themselves. Among other things, this means their worship with music must be subdued.  It means they can’t be seen coming in numbers.  And, it all but limits their growth. Interested Hindus who may otherwise come, do not for fear of reprisal.

Current Status:

Property:  The Lord has given us the opportunity to buy a site in a very strategic location, at a below market price. The deadline for taking advantage of this opportunity is the end of February this year. As of February 19, 2016, of the total cost of $17,200, 78% has been provided by two of our ministry partners. The balance needed is $3,700.

The proposed church building:  KGM is proposing its 20×40 prototype church building for this area. Total cost for buying land and constructing the building is estimated at $38,000 (could vary depending on the cost of land). Potential sites have already been identified and could be purchased quickly if funds were available.
