Bobby George’s mother went to be with the Lord

photoMiriamma George went to be with the Lord last Friday November 14 at 4:00 a.m. Rekha was by her side when she took her last breath and Bobby was nearby.

She was 83 and is survived by all seven of her children and a dozen or so grandchildren, who all live in Dallas Texas except Bobby and his family. Her husband went to be with the Lord in 2003.

The funeral service, held at 3:00 p.m. in KGM’s church in Byndoor the same day, was led by Pastor Babu Mudoor, a close friend and ministry partner of Bobby’s. Participating in the memorial were Pastor Joy (a senior KGM pastor and leader) and other pastors. She was buried in KGM’s little cemetery in Ganganadu about 8 miles out from Byndoor in the jungle. Back in Dallas a memorial service was held at the George family’s church. Bobby’s brother Thomas told me it was a very sweet service honoring her life and was attended by some 300 people.

Mrs. George was a very godly wife, mother and servant of the Lord. She raised seven children and taught them the bible and the love of Jesus. They have all maintained close walks with the Lord to this day! She was a champion of the downtrodden, especially orphans and widows who she devoted her life to helping. She also had the gift of hospitality which she used extensively by opening her home to literally hundreds of pastors and missionaries passing through or needing temporary housing. Not only that, she led untold numbers of people to the Lord.

AND, she is the primary person responsible for imparting God’s vision to Bobby for his life’s work in India. It all started when Bobby was born dead! She told the Lord if He would revive Bobby she would dedicate him to His service. The doctor, In spite of his skepticism, began attempting to resuscitate him. The rest, as they say is history …..

There is no estimating how many crowns Miriaam George must have received!

After her husband died she remained in the family home until 2009 when she went to Dallas Texas to be with her children and grandchildren. In 2013 she decided she wanted to spend her last days in India, so Bobby flew to Dallas and brought back to Byndoor to be with his family. When she arrived she was in fairly good health for her age. Over the next year and a half however her mind began to slip. During her last four months the Lord blessed her by bringing all of her six children and some of their spouses from Dallas to say their goodbyes. And one of Bobby’s elder brothers was there to be with her during her last days and to attend the funeral service.

Burial services in Byndoor are very limit. This results in the family members having to perform many, if not all of the functions associated with burial. Bobby and Rekha had to prepare her body themselves! Because a casket could not be purchased in time the casket had to be built by some of the believers. And, if that were not enough, all the work at the cemetery had to be done by friends as well.

In addition to having to do all these things, just having a cemetery is a huge blessing. Until 2009 the believers in Byndoor had no place to bury their loved ones. There are no public cemeteries anywhere nearby, and the cultural orthodox churches who have cemeteries refuse to allow evangelicals to be buried in their cemeteries. A number of Completing The Call partners provided the funds for KGM to build this cemetery on land adjacent to their church in Ganganadu. Bobby specifically asked me to again convey his deepest thanks to those faithful partners and tell them how special it was to be able to lay his mother to rest in their own cemetery!
